Time for a quick round-up of … Stuff I Like.
Each of these items is in the TechDad Central Hall of Fame and worth serious consideration.
Canopus ADVC 110 Video Converter – So you have lots of video lying around
from old camcorders and you’re worried about the tapes deteriorating. Time to digitize it. Hook the Canopus ADVC to your computer via a FireWire cable then connect your old camcorder (or any other video source) via either composite, S-video or digital (FireWire). The Canopus digitizes your old stuff and works with your existing video editing software. No additional software required and you've preserved those 6th grade band concert videos (ouch) forever.
DLink DGL-4500 Gamer Router – even if you are not a gamer this wireless router is worth it. Complete control over scheduling which system on your network gets Internet access by application or by web site. I use this router to restrict Xbox gaming time and shutdown instant messaging on school nights. Via the DGL-4500, my kids think that I am a wizard. This is the product that put TechDad Central on the map in our town as the “dad who can shut off online access” on demand. Excellent network performance as well.
Roku Netflix Player – I reviewed this earlier but with its new addition of the Amazon Online video library (for a fee), the Roku player is getting a ton of use in our house. The price was recently reduced by $10. Get one and say goodbye to dealing with scratched and dirty DVDs.
