If you haven’t tried Pandora yet, you are missing out on some great listening. Pandora is the user interface to the aptly named “Music Genome Project” that enables to you listen to a vast library of music customized to your own tastes. As you provide feedback, it selects additional tunes just for you. Pandora has been running on computers for some time now, but I wanted to run it directly through my entertainment center without the need for an intermediary computer.
Once again my Roku player came to the rescue! The latest software update from Roku adds a bunch of new channels of content – my favorite being Pandora. You simply link your Roku to your Pandora account by typing in an on-screen access code. You then set-up a “channel” by entering the name of a favorite band or performer.
Pandora then takes over by playing your favorite intermixed with similar music. The Roku streams the audio and, since it’s connected to my media center, I get 150 watts of Oingo Boingo (my personal channel) and others of the Alternative 80’s Genre filling up the house.
The only downside is that the four of us are now fighting over the selection. My wife has set-up the “Fine Young Cannibals” channel, our daughter is the “MGMT” channel and our son has the “Foo Fighters” channel.
I wonder what the “Weird Al Yankovic” channel sounds like?
